Yeah, one part of the problem I think is our standard education system which at least implicitly incentivized doing stuff (I.e. busy work) at the expense of doing things well. Of course, it’s easy to blame “education”, but for a lot of us academic achievement IS a primary motivator for a huge and formative period of our lives. And if the system is set up such that looking busy and doing all your worksheets and memorizing all your facts is what’s valued, we’re going to build some pretty strong habits around always being busy and on the move.
