Right. I guess that’s sort of my point. Ultimately, perfectionism is much more about distracting from uncomfortable feelings that it is achieving perfection.

In other words, we tend to think of perfectionism as an outcome, something to strive for. But my idea is that it’s far more instrumental and functional, a means rather than an end in itself.
