Nice, one Maarten! Somehow this slipped my radar earlier!

I think the argument you’re putting forth here is essentially the same as I do for the concept of assertiveness — the ability to honest and respectfully assert (through speech or action) what’s important to us.

When we avoid being assertive, we teach our own brains that what we value doesn’t matter. Do this long enough, you eventually get to, I don’t matter (hence, depression, hopelessness, alienation, etc..
