I wonder whether scientists’ attitudes toward the knowablility of reality correlates with their achievements as scientists?
Just like great athletes often have an almost delusional belief in their own abilities and chances for success, does having a “delusional” belief in the complete knowableness of reality make you a better scientist?
I might hypothesize that thinking a lot and deeply about the inevitable unknowableness of at least certain aspects of reality might be discouraging and de-motivating for the scientific project generally…
