I really think it’s just a “mental bandwidth” issue.
Personal technology takes up A LOT of mental headspace and “hogs” our attention. When you minimize the amount and frequency of all that digital stuff, you unsurprisingly have more cognitive rexources freed up to use on other things, including being aware of your emtoional state.
Of course, this is something—regardless of our technology use—that most people aren’t trained or encouraged to do. But, if that is a priority, it’s easier to do (like anything) with more mental bandwidth.
