Substance abuse and addiction are complex issues. To my mind, the key is to try to understand what’s driving that behavior, what unmet deed does it fill? I would consider counseling if she’s amenable to it. Also, there’s a good book on addiction that might help you approach this situation more effectively called Drugs, Sex, Gambling, and Chocolate.
